Green Tea Ingredient Slows Breast Cancer

Antioxidant in Green Tea May Stop Breast Cancer Growth

Researcher Jian-Wei Gu, of the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, says the green tea antioxidant may work against breast cancer by suppressing blood vessel growth in breast tumors as well as slowing the proliferation and migration of breast cancer cells.

The results showed that treatment with the green tea antioxidant decreased tumor size by 66% and weight by 68% compared with the control group. Mice fed the antioxidant also had significantly lower density of small blood vessels within tumors and VEGF protein levels.

Protective effect of green tea polyphenols on bone loss in middle-aged female rats.

Department of Pathology, Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, BB 198, 3601 4th street, Lubbock, TX, 79430-9097, USA,

Recent studies have suggested that green tea polyphenols (GTP) are promising agents for preventing bone loss in women. Findings that GTP supplementation resulted in increased urinary GTP concentrations and bone mass via an increase of antioxidant capacity and/or a decrease of oxidative stress damage suggest a significant role of GTP in bone health of women.

Cross sectional study of effects of drinking green tea on cardiovascular and liver diseases.

Department of Epidemiology, Saitama Cancer Center Research Institute, Japan.

OBJECTIVE--To investigate the association between consumption of green tea and various serum markers in a Japanese population, with special reference to preventive effects of green tea against cardiovascular disease and disorders of the liver.

CONCLUSION--The inverse association between consumption of green tea and various serum markers shows that green tea may act protectively against cardiovascular disease and disorders of the liver.

Green Tea for Rheumatoid Arthritis Symptoms

The green tea compound EGCG may be a potential treatment for Rheumatoid Arthritis. Scientists from the University of Michigan Medical School say that preliminary lab results show that EGCG may reduce inflammation and joint damage in rheumatoid arthritis sufferers. Joint cells called synovial fibroblasts were exposed to an inflammatory chemical linked to RA. The affected cells treated with the compound, produced lower levels of two other inflammatory chemicals than cells that hadn't been treated with EGCG. The highest dose of EGCG virtually halted production of those inflammatory chemicals during testing. Salah-uddin Ahmed, PhD says the compound may be of potential therapeutic value in regulating the joint destruction in RA. The amount of tea needed to see this type of result was not reported.

New Studies Confirm Green Tea Promotes Metabolic Efficiency and is Proven Effective For Speeding Up Weight Loss!

Green Tea Extract helps people lose weight. It is not a "magic pill" against obesity, but it helps significantly. Researchers speculate that chemicals in the supplement called catechins are the active ingredients that fight fat. One specific catechin called epigallocate-chin- 3- gallate (EGCG) is particularly effective in promoting themogenesis (increased calorie use) and speeding weight loss.

British researchers found that Green Tea Extract increased fat use by 17 percent during 15 minutes of aerobic exercise. In a second experiment involving blood sugar regulation after consuming a high sugar drink, Green Tea Extract lowered blood sugar faster than a placebo with less insulin release.

Green Tea Extract has other health benefits. It reduces premature cell death and helps speed recovery after a heart attack or stroke. It also contains powerful antioxidants that protect the cells from freeradical damage. Free radicals are the destructive chemicals produced naturally during normal cellular metabolism that causes destruction of the healthy cell membranes, crucial DNA and promote heart disease, cancer and premature aging.

An 11 year study of more than 40,000 Japanese adults found that regular consumption of Green Tea reduced death rates from all causes, and specifically from cardio-vascular disease. Green Tea Extract continually proves to be an excellent dietary supplement that promotes metabolic health and speeds weight loss naturally.

Antiatherogenicity of extra virgin olive oil and its enrichment with green tea polyphenols in the atherosclerotic apolipoprotein-E-deficient mice: enhanced macrophage cholesterol efflux.

The Lipid Research Laboratory, Technion Faculty of Medicine, The Rappaport Family Institute for Research in the Medical Sciences, Rambam Medical Center, Haifa 31096, Israel.

The antiatherogenic properties of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) enriched with green tea polyphenols (GTPPs; hereafter called EVOO-GTPP), in comparison to EVOO, were studied in the atherosclerotic apolipoprotein-E-deficient (E(0)) mice.

We thus conclude that EVOO possesses beneficial antiatherogenic effects, and its enrichment with GTPPs further improved these effects, leading to the attenuation of atherosclerosis development.

Green Tea and Pregnant Women
You may have heard that pregnant women need to watch their caffeine intake when it comes to drinking green tea. A recent article in American Chronicle points out that the compound EGCG, Epigallocatechin gallate known for its cancer fighting properties, may also affect fetal development negatively. The compound interferes with folate absorption, which is an important for fetal development. Julian Tai suggests that pregnant green tea drinkers should discuss acceptable consumption with their doctor. He also states it might be beneficial to limit consumption to the first trimester. Timing would also be a good discussion topic with your physician.
